Thriving as a veterinary professional Symposium 2020

A unique mental health and wellbeing symposium for all veterinary and para-veterinary professionals.

Currently there is a global mental health crisis happening in the veterinary profession.

The special people who are entrusted with nurturing and honouring the Human Animal Bond, are extremely vulnerable to distress, burnout, anxiety and depression.

In Australia, every 12 weeks a veterinarian will die of suicide.

This crisis is affecting
• Experienced Veterinarians
• New Veterinary Graduates
• Veterinary Undergraduates
• Veterinary Nurses
• Veterinary Technicians
• Animal Attendants
• Shelter And Rescue Group Workers
• Funeral/ Aftercare Crematorium Carers
• Pharmaceutical Company employees

Many of us have already been seriously affected and touched by mental illness and the suicide of family, friends and colleagues, and sincerely wish that we could have done something to help or even to prevent it happening.

The situation is complex and needs to be discussed.

The situation is complex and needs to be discussed.

Veterinarians are four times more likely than the general population, and twice as likely as other health professionals to commit suicide.

How can Thrivet make a difference?

By bringing the most experienced and knowledgable experts in the area of veterinary mental health care and awareness, both from within Australia and from around the world.
In July / August 2020, we will provide an informative and interesting symposium in a very comfortable setting at Crown Towers, Southbank. The event is planned to be a little different to normal veterinary seminars.
Registration will start later in the morning to encourage a sleep in, perhaps a leisurely breakfast and not having to rush!
